US President Donald Trump kicked off a five-day trip to Asia on Friday night to strengthen trade and regional ties.
Trump will visit Malaysia, Japan and South Korea on the trip. It is the longest foreign trip of his second term.
The White House said about the US president’s trip that Trump will attend the ASEAN summit in Malaysia and sign a ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia.
He will then travel to Japan and discuss military spending and Japan’s $550 billion investment in the United States with the country’s new Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe.
After Japan, Trump’s final stop on his trip will be in Busan, South Korea. Trump has said that if no deal is reached with China, he will raise tariffs on Chinese imports to 155 percent after November 1.
