The Syrian High Election Commission announced that the voting process will begin at 9 am on Sunday, October 5, and will continue until 5 pm.

These are the first parliamentary elections to be held in Syria since the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

About 6,000 representatives from regional electoral colleges will vote indirectly in the elections.

Two-thirds of the 210 parliamentary seats in the elections will be elected by popular vote, while the remaining one-third will elect their own president.

Government officials have said that the system was chosen instead of a general vote due to the war and the displacement of people, but critics have called the elections flawed.

Officials added that preliminary results will be announced later that night.

It is worth noting that the new Syrian regime, led by Ahmed Sharia, was established in December.
